One of the most influential poet of all times whose fame is not confined only to Muslim world but also to Europe and Asia, who is called “Shair-e-Mashrik” is Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He was a scholar, poet, philosopher, politician as well as academic and a barrister. He is considered one of the most important figures in Urdu literature, with literary work in both Urdu and Persian and is admired as a prominent poet by Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians and other international scholars of literature. Besides being poet, he is also the reason behind Pakistan. He is the one who gave the idea of separate homeland and aroused Muslims through his thought-provoking poetry. Early Life and Education:

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born on 9th November is Sialkot. His father Sheikh Noor Muhammad was poor rather religious man. He was tailor by profession. He admitted Iqbal to mosque when he was four to learn Quran. He learned Arabic language there. The he got admission in Mission High School, Sialkot where he done his matriculated. Then he went to Government College Lahore where he did Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, English literature and Arabic. The he went to west for higher education.

Career:

After his Master’s degree he served in Government College Lahore as a professor of philosophy for short period of time. After doing Bachelors of Arts degree from England and earning PhD degree from Germany he returned to Lahore and started his practice as a lawyer. In 1919, he became the general secretary of AnjumanHimayat-e-Islam. Then in 1927, Iqbal was elected to the Punjab Legislative assembly and was later elected to preside over the session of the Muslim League. It was there that he for the first time introduced the idea of ‘Pakistan’.
